I've been there, I get it, I GET YOU!
In my last blog I briefly talked about how my own training went to pot while myself and my husband were transforming a tired and dull mill unit into what is now an amazing space for ladies to train in. You see, that wasn't entirely true...
Ok I wasn't able to / willing to / didn't have the energy to work through my gym programme, or whatever excuse I gave myself at the time, but that didn't mean I abandoned exercise altogether. Tim and I are big outdoorsy people and we love to go hiking and cycling.
We used to be out on the hills every weekend doing 10km hikes with the pooch almost without fail! Not so much now with the dog being poorly but that doesn't stop us, we just work around what she can do. Hiking wouldn't be the same without her so leaving her at home is just out of the question!
For the first month after we got the keys we worked solidly so training halted altogether. But once the studio started to come together a bit it was time to stop letting it get in the way of what we loved to do.
As we found ourselves spending every minute of our spare time at the mill, the last thing we wanted to do was stay and train there so it was time to get back out on the hills.
You see, not feeling up to a gym routine isn't the end of the world, but giving up all forms of exercise is! If something stands in your way, big or small, there is always a way round it. In this case, fresh air was it!
Being perfect all of the time isn't possible, even I as a Personal Trainer fall off the wagon with my training and nutrition sometimes, it's what makes me able to relate to my clients so well. We can't all be perfect all of the time, what we can do is do the things we enjoy doing at that time to keep us active, be that a swim, walking the dog or hiking in the Peak District.
I'm no saint, sometimes I let things get in the way of my own goals, but it's not the end of the world and I certainly down beat myself up about it. Why? Because what good would that do me? Instead, I pick myself up, and get on with it, making small changes that will get me back on track. And that's exactly what I’m doing right now - one week at a time, little changes that will lead to my end goal. I've still got a little way to go but I’m getting there, work in progress if you like! What's most important, I’m enjoying life while staying active.
Do i stay the same size and weight all the time? No!
Do i keep myself active and at a weight and size that isn't detrimental to my health? YES!
I guess what I’m trying to say is I know what it's like to struggle from time to time. I've been there, I get it, I GET YOU!
Ok, it's time for me to walk the dog so I’ll fill you in a little bit more about me in my next blog...
